The Location

The WhiteHouse sits on the edge of Martinborough, close enough to walk into town yet fully private within its own 5-hectare vineyard. The village itself is one of the more distinctive pockets of Martinborough vineyard accommodation in the country - its square laid out in a Union Jack pattern, ringed by more than 20 family-owned wineries producing some of New Zealand’s finest Pinot Noir. Restaurants, olive groves, gin distillers and cafés are a short stroll or cycle from the square, and the surrounding South Wairarapa countryside delivers the kind of layered, folded landscape more usually associated with film sets than farmland. Wellington city is a 60-minute drive away, making this an easy weekend escape or a base for a longer wine-country stay.

The Property

The WhiteHouse is a contemporary farmhouse built to a genuinely luxury accommodation Martinborough standard, with four master suites configured as three Kings and one twin-Queen, each fitted with imported St. Regis beds and linen, a walk-in wardrobe, and an ensuite with a large walk-in shower and dual vanities. Underfloor heating runs through the bathrooms, central air and heating covers the rest of the house, and a gas fireplace anchors the main living space. Furnishings throughout are imported from the United States, predominantly Restoration Hardware, giving the interiors a weight and warmth that suits both a quiet couple’s retreat and a full house of eight. The kitchen is built for serious cooking, with a free-standing Wolf gas range, second oven and Wolf coffee maker set alongside a full-sized Miele washer and dryer in the laundry — and a private chef can be arranged for onsite entertaining.

The Experience

Mornings at The Whitehouse open onto the view across Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vines to the hills beyond; afternoons are for cycling or driving the short distance into Martinborough’s wineries and cellar doors, or simply walking the estate’s own 5 hectares. As the light drops, dinner moves outdoors - a table set with vineyard views, or a gathering around the gas fire pit with a bottle of local wine and an uninterrupted view of the night sky. Guests arrive to a welcome hamper of artisanal cheese and crackers, a bottle of local wine, and premium New Zealand hair and skincare, with mid-stay servicing available on longer stays.
