Moturua Island

14 4 5

Moturua Island is a hidden gem located on a privately-owned beach in Bay of Islands

Sail or fly to your private retreat

This stunning beachside house, designed by famous New Zealand architect Pete Bossley, has been skillfully built to take advantage of the soothing water and island views as well as to fit into its native surroundings on the idyllic Moturua Island. Access to the island is restricted to boat or helicopter, and you can choose to keep the helicopter and pilot onsite with you throughout your stay with the help of the property’s heli-pad and hangar.

Relax into island life

The main home features four beautifully appointed bedrooms, all enjoying a private terrace and ocean views. The focal point of the main house is the split level living area. The kitchen and living room flow to surrounding outdoor patios adjoining a vast lawn.

Each room has maximum exposure to outside, either the beach and sea to the east, and through the relaxed corridor to the land and afternoon sun to the west. In addition, a separate guest house contains two bedrooms, bringing the island guest capacity to a comfortable 14.  Additional bedrooms are also housed in the helicopter hangar which is self-contained and includes a kitchen making it is suitable for support staff. You can also choose to have a chef on site to create fine-dining meals using the freshest local produce (perhaps even one of the fish you caught from the day) and a host on hand to keep the house neat and tidy during your stay.

The property’s underground boat shed is home to a wide range of toys such as fishing gear, paddle boards, sea kayaks and up to the minute snorkeling equipment. On request, boats and jet skis can be arranged.

Explore your surrounds

The island has walking tracks with views and native bush that you thought only existed in Lord of the Rings movies and an ocean trampoline for the summer days. We can arrange a helicopter for transport to Kauri Cliffs Lodge where you can play on their world-class golf course and use their day spa and restaurant.  There are awe-inspiring island cruises for the leisure seekers and deep sea fishing for the adrenaline seekers too.

The island takes part in the story of New Zealand’s founding history with the Maori, New Zealand’s indigenous people, thriving on the island’s environment. To retain this environment, the island’s maintenance is taken care of by the Department of Conservation to ensure all native bush and birdlife is protected from pests.
