Vineyard Villa, The Landing | Luxury Accommodation Bay of Islands NZ | Private Vineyard Retreat

The Vineyard Villa at The Landing occupies one of the most spectacular positions on the Purerua Peninsula, nestled among the established vines of Northland’s largest private vineyard, with long views rolling across a wetland valley and out to the open waters of Wairoa Bay. Designed by award-winning architect Nat Cheshire, this is luxury accommodation in the Bay of Islands NZ where exceptional architecture and a genuinely extraordinary setting are in complete agreement: understated, considered, and deeply connected to the land.

The Location

The Landing estate sits at the southwestern tip of the Purerua Peninsula, one of the most historically and naturally significant stretches of land in New Zealand. Over a thousand acres of private beaches, native bush, rolling farmland, wildlife sanctuaries, and registered archaeological sites make up this extraordinary property, developed with the blessing of local iwi and managed with genuine care for the land it occupies. The Bay of Islands itself needs little introduction: 144 islands scattered across some of the clearest, most beautiful water in the Pacific, a marine playground of world renown, and the birthplace of the Treaty of Waitangi and the shared history of Māori and Pākehā New Zealand.

At the heart of the estate sits the vineyard, the largest in Northland, producing award-winning wines that have been shaped by this particular corner of the far north for two centuries. For guests of the Vineyard Villa, that vineyard is not a backdrop. It is a neighbour, a view, and a very good reason to pour a glass before dinner. Kerikeri Airport is around 30 minutes by road or boat, and Auckland just 55 minutes by helicopter to The Landing’s private helipad.

The Vineyard Villa

Designed by award-winning architect Nat Cheshire of Cheshire Architects, the Vineyard Villa offers refined, classic elegance. The architecture draws the landscape inside at every turn: on the seaward side, the open kitchen and generous living quarters soak in the morning sun, while glass walls slide away behind stonework to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior entirely, transforming the main pavilion into an outdoor room, a sheltered extension of the vines and sky beyond. Dark timber and stone run throughout, grounding the villa in its surroundings, while understated modern furnishings keep the palette calm and the atmosphere utterly relaxed.

Three king bedroom suites accommodate up to six guests with ease. Two open directly to the garden; the master suite commands its own outlook and sense of seclusion. Three distinct entertaining spaces give the villa a generous, sociable quality, a large open living area with expansive bay views, a covered front terrace for year-round outdoor dining, and a sheltered west-facing courtyard where an open-air fire catches the last of the sunset. As an entertainer’s haven or a romantic’s retreat, the Vineyard Villa is equally, effortlessly convincing.

The Experience

Every stay at the Vineyard Villa includes a wine-tasting tour of The Landing’s award-winning estate vineyard, a particularly fitting inclusion for a property that wakes each morning to the same view as the vines. The Landing’s concierge team are on hand to arrange your days with exactly the level of involvement you’d like: from private chef services bringing estate-grown produce directly to your table, to cookery lessons with the Landing chefs, in-villa massages, and guided walks through the estate’s native bush and heritage sites.

The Landing’s private jetty, the launching point for the full marine playground of the Bay of Islands, is a short stroll away. Fishing, diving, sailing, and island-hopping across 144 islands are all within easy reach. Helicopter scenic flights, tennis, and the quiet rhythm of long mornings over estate coffee and good wine complete the picture. For those seeking bay of islands accommodation that pairs architectural beauty with a genuine sense of place, where the land, the vines, and the sea are all part of the experience, the Vineyard Villa at The Landing is a deeply considered answer.
