The Villa at Blanket Bay - Private Luxury Villa on Lake Wakatipu

Positioned above the Lodge and Chalets, The Villa at Blanket Bay is a private, fully-serviced luxury villa in Glenorchy with four King Suites arranged around a grand lounge, bar and commercial kitchen, taking in the full sweep of Lake Wakatipu and the Humboldt and Thomson mountain ranges.

The Villa at Blanket Bay occupies the highest ground of the property, an award-winning architecturally designed residence with its own security suite, private terraces and a 1,000-square-metre footprint built to hold the sun from morning through afternoon. Guests can book a single King Suite, a pair, or the villa in its entirety — each configuration sharing the same grand lounge, bar and commercial kitchen, along with outdoor lounge areas, a fire pit and hot tubs set against uninterrupted lake and mountain views. It is Blanket Bay at its most private: a self-contained luxury villa in Glenorchy with full access to the Lodge’s dining, spa and guided experiences whenever guests choose to step down and join them.

The Location

The Villa sits at the highest point of the Blanket Bay property, at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu on land forming part of a 60,000-acre high country station bordered by Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks. The drive from Queenstown follows the lake’s edge for around forty minutes, with the Southern Alps building steadily ahead; a helicopter transfer from Queenstown Airport covers the same ground in minutes, landing directly at the property. From here, guests can reach three of New Zealand’s classic walking tracks — the Routeburn, the Greenstone-Caples and the Rees-Dart — along with the Dart River, whose jet boat and kayak routes gave this stretch of country a starring role in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Few private villas in New Zealand occupy a setting this remote while remaining close enough to Queenstown for an easy transfer at either end of the stay.

The Villa

Four King Suites make up The Villa at Blanket Bay, each comprising a 1,000-square-foot bedroom, bathroom, sitting area, kitchenette and open fireplace, with private terraces oriented to capture both morning and afternoon sun. Shared spaces are built around the grand lounge, bar and commercial kitchen, extending outdoors to lounge areas, a fire pit and hot tubs, all framed by the same uninterrupted views of Lake Wakatipu and the Humboldt and Thomson ranges that define the wider property. A dedicated security suite accommodates personal helpers, keeping service seamless without compromising the villa’s privacy. Whether booked as a single suite, a pair, or in full for up to eight guests, the Villa functions as a complete private residence — one that can also draw fully on the Main Lodge’s restaurant, wine cave, spa and guided experiences whenever guests want to extend the stay beyond their own walls.

The Experience

Life at The Villa at Blanket Bay moves at whatever pace a group chooses — meals prepared privately in the villa’s own commercial kitchen, or booked into the Lodge’s nightly five-course degustation, led by chef Dan Reynolds and served in the Dining Room, on the Grand Terrace, or in the more intimate wine cave and tasting room. Days can be spent entirely within the Villa’s own grounds, around the fire pit and hot tubs with the lake stretched out below, or given over to the same wilderness access available to every Blanket Bay guest: heli-skiing across untracked Southern Alps powder, heli-fishing to remote South Island rivers, Dart River jet boat safaris, horse riding, and scenic flights to Milford Sound and Fiordland. The Lodge’s spa, steam rooms, gym and heated outdoor lap pool remain fully available throughout the stay. It is a setting built for groups who want the privacy of their own residence without losing anything of the wider Lodge experience.
