The Beach House at Tahi

Starting from NZ$20,000 per night

This isn’t just a holiday. This is a homecoming - to nature, to stillness, and to something truly sacred.

Set within Tahi, an 800-acre coastal eco-sanctuary in Northland, The Beach House is a soulful beachfront retreat with purpose at its core. Once degraded farmland, the land has been lovingly restored over the last two decades into a living eco-lab - now home to regenerating native bush, thriving wetlands, wild dunes, and over 70 species of native birds. The entire property is rooted in the principles of regeneration, biodiversity, and deep respect for Aotearoa’s natural and cultural heritage — and staying here means becoming part of that story.

Designed by renowned Kiwi architects Patterson Associates, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home blends laidback coastal luxury with light-footed sustainability. It’s completely off-grid - powered by solar, supplied by harvested rainwater, and built using natural, locally sourced materials. The interiors are calm, earthy, and understatedly elegant, with New Zealand art, handcrafted ceramics, and taonga (treasures) that honour the Māori stories of this land.

Step outside and you’re just moments from the Pataua estuary and your own private stretch of beach - perfect for early morning swims, sunset strolls, or a day spent barefoot and blissed out. The beach shed is fully stocked with kayaks, paddleboards, and boogie boards, ready for whatever the tide brings in.

When you’re ready to explore, the experiences are as enriching as they are unforgettable. Take a guided tour with Tahi’s biodiversity rangers, learning about native flora, rewilding, and the land’s extraordinary transformation. Wander through native bush alive with birdsong, or set out on horseback to explore the dunes and hills beyond. For keen birdwatchers, the sanctuary is a dream - with 71 species of native birds calling this place home, including tūī, pāteke, kererū and kārearea.

And just metres from your door lies one of Tahi’s most extraordinary treasures, an ancient Māori pā site, a sacred piece of cultural heritage that few have the privilege to experience so intimately.

Whether you’re here for a restorative escape or a special celebration, the Beach House can be made fully hands-free with the addition of a private chef and host, creating space for you to truly unwind and reconnect.
