Royal Davui Island Resort: Fiji’s Adults-Only Luxury Island Escape
On its own private island in Beqa Lagoon, Royal Davui pairs sixteen pool villas with adults-only seclusion built for honeymooners. There are no shared paths here, no day-trippers, no children’s schedules competing for space — just sixteen freestanding villas set into the contours of a single private island, each with its own plunge pool trained on the lagoon. Royal Davui was built at a scale most Fiji luxury resorts have long since outgrown, and that restraint is the point: fewer villas, more distance between them, and a rhythm of days set by the guest rather than the resort.
The Location
Royal Davui occupies its own small island within Beqa Lagoon, roughly a forty-five-minute transfer by road and boat from Nadi. The lagoon itself is home to the soft coral gardens and shark dives that made Beqa famous among divers, and to Beqa Island, the traditional home of Fiji’s legendary firewalkers, visible from the villas across open water. There is no public access to Royal Davui’s island and no other accommodation sharing it; guests staying here are, quite literally, the only people on it. That exclusivity extends to what surrounds the island as much as what sits on it — reef, current and open Pacific on one side, the calmer, multi-hued shallows of the lagoon on the other, and a tide-dependent sand cay a short boat ride away that appears and disappears with the day.
The Resort
Sixteen one-bedroom villas make up the entire resort, arranged across the island’s high ground and shoreline rather than clustered around a central building. Each is air-conditioned, open-plan, and built around its own private plunge pool and timber deck, with king beds, indoor-outdoor living and free WiFi as standard across the collection. The Davui Plunge Pool Villa East holds the highest, most secluded position on the island, looking out over both mountain and lagoon; the Sunset Plunge Pool Villas face west, built expressly around the evening light; the Lagoon Plunge Pool Bungalows sit slightly closer to the island’s centre with elevated lagoon views; and the Island Plunge Pool Bungalows settle into the natural garden contours with a more grounded, sheltered outlook. At the island’s heart stands a genuine Pacific banyan tree, around which the open-air Banyan Restaurant is built — the resort’s only communal dining room, and deliberately small, seating around thirty guests at most. Sustainability runs through the operation rather than sitting alongside it: reef-safe toiletries, no single-use plastics, and a kitchen built around line-caught, small-scale-fished seafood and Fijian produce.
The Experience
All meals are included for the length of the stay, and where they’re eaten is largely up to the guest. Breakfast, lunch and dinner rotate through daily-changing menus that can be taken at the Banyan Restaurant beneath its namesake tree, on the private Banyan Dining Deck set high above the pool and lagoon, at the beachfront Private Beach Hut, or entirely in-villa on a private dining deck set with the same linen and service as the restaurant — at no additional charge across any of these settings. Beverages run separately, with a hand-picked wine list and a cocktail programme built on fresh tropical fruit and island botanicals rather than pre-mixed shortcuts.
Beyond the villa, days can be spent diving Beqa Lagoon’s reef systems with PADI-certified guides, arranging a tide-dependent picnic on the resort’s private sand cay, booking treatments at the Davui Spa, or simply doing very little at all. The adults-only setting (sixteen and over) means none of it competes with anything else — which is precisely why Royal Davui is booked as often for honeymoons and anniversaries as it is for couples simply after a Fiji luxury resort built around quiet.
