A rare coastal escape with depth, purpose, and soul.

Introducing The Beach House at Tahi
Posted in August 2025
There are beach houses — and then there’s The Beach House at Tahi.
Brand new to our collection (and like nothing we’ve seen before), this three-bedroom retreat is tucked into the rolling dunes of Northland’s east coast, set within an 800-acre private eco-sanctuary. Intimate, architecturally striking, and effortlessly in tune with its surroundings, it’s designed to tread lightly and connect deeply - to land, to culture, and to the people you’ve brought along for the ride.
Expect solar power, rain-harvested water, private beach access, and interiors that blend curated design with a quiet reverence for Aotearoa’s natural beauty. And with one of New Zealand’s leading biodiversity projects quite literally on your doorstep, this is barefoot luxury with real substance - and a stay you’ll talk about long after the sand’s been rinsed off.
The Beach House: Light-Footed, Luxe, and Designed to Slow You Down
The first thing you’ll notice? The silence. Well, the good kind - the kind accompanied with gentle native birdsong, waves lapping the shore, and the peace of absolutely nothing on your to-do list.
Architecturally designed by Patterson Associates, the house feels like a natural progression of the landscape, with solar panels, rain-harvested water, and natural, tonal materials. But don’t let the off-grid credentials fool you - this is refined, design-forward living at its finest. Everything feels considered and tactical. Inside, the calming textures, sun-washed timbers, curated contemporary NZ art, and museum-worthy taonga (treasures) pay homage to the stories of this land.
There are three spacious bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen for your private chef, and an outdoor tub with a view that calls for a long soak and a cocktail. A surfboard-filled beach shed, generous entertaining spaces, and private beach access round out the essentials.
Tahi: Your 800-Acre Playground
Here’s where it gets really good. The Beach House sits within Tahi — an 800-acre private eco-sanctuary that’s been intentionally regenerated over the past two decades. Think of it as a living, breathing eco-lab that doubles as your fascinating playground for the duration of your stay.
This isn’t just landscaped bush, this is thriving, native forest, rewilded wetlands, and coastlines buzzing with life. More than 350,000 trees planted. 71 species of native birds. And an ancient Māori pā site just a stone’s throw from your front door - a powerful, protected place that few ever get to experience so closely.
What to Do (Or Not Do)
Your days at Tahi can be as full or as gloriously empty as you like. Paddleboard the estuary. Go horseback riding across the hills. Follow native bush trails, binoculars in hand, spotting tūī and kererū. Or join one of the on-site biodiversity rangers to dig a little deeper into the mahi behind the magic.
And when doing nothing calls, you’re in the right place. Pour a wine, find a lounger, and watch the light change over the dunes. Bliss.
Why Northland?
Tahi is just 30 minutes from Whangārei Airport, but feels like a proper, beachfront escape. Northland has long been a quiet achiever of Kiwi holidays - all golden beaches, rich Māori heritage, and fewer crowds than its southern counterparts Long considered one of New Zealand’s best-kept secrets, Northland is warm, welcoming, and wonderfully relaxed — a true taste of the laidback Kiwi lifestyle,
The Verdict?
This isn’t just a pretty place to holiday. It’s a stay that means something — the kind that makes you feel better for having been there.
Ready to experience it for yourself? Let’s lock it in.
