14 Days New Zealand Family Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival at Bay of Islands

After arriving in Auckland, you will self drive to the Bay of Islands to Tahapuke - a luxurious beach house. This is a drive of approximately 4 hours.

Perhaps stop off at the Matakana Sculptureum for lunch and explore the sculpture gardens.

This afternoon is at your leisure to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Your Touch of Spice host can assist with any additional arrangements you would like to make.

Day 2 | Boat cruise around the Bay of Islands

Getting out on the water allows you to explore the beautiful islands, and beaches of the Bay of Islands.

A boat cruise in the Bay of Islands is the ultimate way to experience the 144 Islands in all their splendor and providing opportunities for peaceful anchorages and island walks on some of the larger islands, such as Urupukapuka, Roberton Island (Motuarohia), Motukiekie and Waewaetorea.


Day 3 | Day of leisure

Today is at your leisure in the Bay of Islands.

Perhaps head to the beach for a day of kayaking and stand up paddle boarding or explore the local tracks and swim under waterfalls. Head to Puketi and explore the native Kauri forests or explore the glow worm caves in nearby Waiomio.

Your Touch of Spice host can assist with any additional arrangements you would like to make.

Day 4 | Arrival at Rotorua

Today you will fly to Auckland Airport (50mins) and collect you rental vehicle to drive to Rotorua. This drive is approximately 3 hours.

Stop by the famous Hobbiton movie set and get lost in the world of Tolkien.

This afternoon is at your leisure to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Day 5 | Cultural & geothermal experience in Rotorua

Today you will drive you to Te Puia to explore the geothermal valleys and geysers. Learn about the native Maori culture of New Zealand and experience a skin tingling haka in person.

This evening enjoy a walk in the treetops with an eco-tourism walk in the heart of Rotorua’s Redwood Forest.

Consisting of a series of 23 suspension bridges, traversing 22 majestic Redwood trees that are more than 117-years-old. The height of the walkway allows a stunning view of the forest below.


Day 6 | Day at leisure

Today is at your leisure in Rotorua.

Perhaps head to the skies in a helicopter to explore White Island – one of New Zealand’s active volcanoes, head to the water on a boat cruise or head to the forest for some mountain biking.

Day 7 | Arrival at Marlborough Sound

Today you will fly to Blenheim from Rotorua.

You will be transferred to Picton where the concierge will assist with your water taxi to Bay of Many Coves.

This afternoon is at your leisure to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Day 8 | Onsite activities

Spend the day exploring this resort and the surroundings. There are kayaks and SUPs available for your use.

Take one of several tracks from the Resort that lead you through hectares of private bush, alive with native birds. Venture to the Queen Charlotte Track, or arrange a boat pick up from any of the entry and exit points along this magnificent walkway.

The Resort is built around the beach with easy access to the water and a number of places to spend a pleasant few hours stretched out under the sun.

Day 9 | Boat cruise in Marlborough Sound

Today you will be collected from Bay of Many Coves for a day exploring the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.

Imagine yourself cruising your way around 4000 square kms of idyllic scenery that make up the beautiful Sounds – pristine waters and bush clad hills provide a serenity rarely found these days.

Dolphins can regularly been seen playing within the waters of the Marlborough Sounds. The area is home to a resident pod of about 20–30 Hector’s dolphin, ‘thought to be the rarest marine dolphin in the world’.

Day 10 | Arrival at Queenstown

Today you will fly from Blenheim to Queenstown.

On arrival in Queenstown you will pick up your rental vehicle and make you way to your accommodation.

This afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 11 | Milford Sound helicopter & cruise

Explore Milford Sounds stunning Fiord from the air and on the water.

Upon landing in Milford, join an unforgettable cruise, past sheer cliffs, gushing waterfalls and perhaps even spot dolphins, seals and penguins.

Enjoy an exhilarating flight past spectacular rivers, valleys and mountains with blue-green ice falls, and land upon Mt Tutoko glacier in the heart of Fiordland National Park.


Day 12 | Day at leisure

Today is yours at leisure in Queenstown.

Perhaps get the adrenaline pumping with a morning of ziplining in Paradise, quad biking or push yourself to the limits with a world famous bungy.

You may choose to take a drive to Arrowtown and mine for gold or Wanaka and get lost in the giant outdoor maze at Puzzling World.

Day 13 | 4WD farm tour

Enjoy a spectacular drive in luxury to the station on Lake Wakatipu before meeting with the farmer of the remote high-country farm for an exclusive farm tour.

This unique and exclusive experience allows you to wander through spectacular alpine landscapes and discover the sheep and beef farm with working dogs.

 Enjoy exploring vast mountain vistas, spot some of the station’s wild deer and even have lunch in the wool shed where they shear the sheep for their prized merino wool.

Day 14 | Day at leisure

Today is also yours at leisure in Queenstown.

Take a drive to Glenorchy and visit the Lord of the Rings filming sites or head out for a hilltop horseback ride on a high country station.

Tonight choose to have a private chef in your villa for a gourmet family meal before you departure tomorrow.

Day 15 | Homeward bound

Time to depart - already planning your return to beautiful New Zealand.
