Read Richard Turen's, contributing editor of Travel Weekly, article on the Conde Nast Travel Specialist summit in LA recently.
Jacqui Spice has been named as a Villa Specialist by Conde Nast for the last three years.
Introducing the world`s best vacation crafters
I took flight to Southern California last week, for a few days at the largely undiscovered Terranea Resort, and started feeling good the moment I arrived at this lovely 582-room, 102-acre oasis of calm and comfort plopped down along one of the most gorgeous stretches of Pacific Ocean landscape on the West Coast.
I was a guest at the annual gathering of industry lights who have been named to Conde Nast Traveler`s list of the World`s Top Travel Specialists. There were meetings with the magazine`s editors, plus discussions of trends and the role of social media.
I couldn`t wait to get back and introduce you to some of the people I met among this gathering of small-business owners from all over the world, who managed to be so good at what they do that they were decreed "best" by Conde Nast Traveler...

Touch of Spice is delighted to be involved in the Urbis Designday working with Coastal Design and Kathryn Wilson Shoes.
Touch of Spice is working with such great New Zealand talent as a "creative" sponsor to help pull the look and feel of the installation together.
Coastal Design is recognised as New Zealand`s most popular outdoor furniture brand while Kathryn Wilson is New Zealand`s most successful footwear designer, celebrated for her innovative designs and exceptionally high quality.
More than 100 guests including some of the country`s most inspiring creatives and many of Auckland`s leading design showrooms congregated on the Roxy Rooftop Terrace for the exclusive launch of Urbis Designday 2012 and the big reveal of the designer pairings.
This year`s creative talent - a fusion of designers from the worlds of fashion, art, architecture, interiors, furniture, landscape, spatial and graphic design - are currently collaborating with their showroom partners to create a series of temporary installations, open to the public for one day only on Saturday 24 March.
The Urbis Designday 2012 theme is `Colour in Motion` and it is up to the design collaborations to decide how they interpret this within their showpieces.
Tickets are now on sale at eventfinder.co.nz for $30 per person or $50 for a double. The ticket cost includes chauffeured transport around the showrooms throughout the day and decadent and interesting hospitality along the way. The day runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 24 March.
Reigning champion Silvertip won 2012 NZ Millennium Cup in Auckland on Saturday.
Silvertip is a high performance 33.8-metre sloop built by Yachting Developments in Auckland in 2001 and is also the first yacht to ever win both the International Superyacht Society`s Best Sailing Yacht and Showboats` Best Sailing Yacht awards in her class.
The NZ Millennium Cup is now an annual event organised by NZ Marine Export Group, the industry association responsible for promoting the NZ Marine industry to the world.
The regatta is designed to showcase New Zealand`s impressive superyacht build and refit industry and facilities. It includes a strong mix of sailing races and social events and is expected to quickly become the premier event for superyachts in the South Pacific.
Touch of Spice were delighted to be Gold Sponsors of this fabulous sailing event.

The 2012 NZ Millennium Cup is underway in Auckland. Racing started at 11am this morning, with 2 further days tomorrow and Saturday.
As this stunning picture taken today shows, members of the public, even those on shore, will this year be able to enjoy close-up views of an impressive fleet of luxury superyachts as they compete in the regatta.
Racing on the three days of this prestigious event will take place close to shore, in the Waitemata harbour and inner Hauraki Gulf. This means those on vantage points at Devonport, North Head, Bastion Point, on the East Coast Bays and Whanagaparoa Peninsula, as well as along the Motutapu and Rangitoto shorelines, will be able to see all of the action as these luxurious 30-metre-plus vessels battle for supremacy.
NZ Millennium Cup organisers have designed courses that start and finish off Viaduct Harbour, ensuring there will also be good viewing at both ends of the races for those working in the CBD.
When not racing, the superyacht owners and their guests will be given the chance to experience some of New Zealand`s finest food and wine in a mixture of casual and formal settings. These will range from a "Kiwi bach" themed post-race function in the Floating Pavilion to a formal gala dinner and prizegiving in The Cloud on Princes Wharf, complete with a charity auction to raise money for Coastguard, both organised by our Events division, Touch of Spice Events.

We hosted UK journalist Mark O'Flaherty at the Lordens Penthouse recently.
Mark, the design and travel writer and photographer for UK publications such as the Financial Times, the Sunday Times, Elle, The Guardian, Esquire and Tatler, tweeted on arrival -
Why not book to stay at Lordens Penthouse and you too can enjoy the view!
What a lovely thank you from Ali Williams and Casey Green! It was my pleasure to work with you and help create your fabulous wedding day!
"Having a wedding planner involved in your day (and Jacqui Spice in particular!) completely changes your whole wedding planning experience. Not once did I worry if something wasn`t done or ticked off the list, without a doubt it always was! Building up to the wedding and on the wedding day at no point was I stressed about any of the details, whether it was if the flowers would arrive on time or whether the groomsmen would remember to bring their belts and shoes, I knew Jacqui would have it covered. With her list of trusted suppliers I never had to wait more than a day or less to get an answer to a question. She would read through all the contracts from the suppliers and through all of their emails taking all that extra `stuff` away from me.
With regards to our wedding styling - I gave Jacqui a small brief on what I wanted and she read my mind with the rest ensuring all the little extra things that would pull it all together were there. She even went to the extent of helping my "husband" choose the fabric and the colour for his suit, going to this suit fittings and picking up the fabric from my dress maker and taking it to the suit maker to make all the groomsmen`s ties! Nothing was too hard and basically you could have anything done for you! Jacqui smoothed everything over and made sure everything was possible.
Leading in to the wedding Jacqui and her team also helped our guests with their accommodation and transport and with 140 guests on the guest list that took a whole lot of work off me. My advice for future brides is to definitely use a wedding planner - it changes your whole journey and I didn`t have any stress at all through the wedding planning process. I will be using Jacqui and her team for my 40th, 50th, 60th and beyond!"
We were delighted to host Ali WIlliams and his beautiful bride Casey Green at Southerly after their recent nuptials in Queenstown.
Southerly is a fabulously exclusive and private home located just outside central Queenstown with wonderful lake and mountain views.
"Southerly was the perfect accommodation for us to relax and unwind in post our Queenstown wedding. There was plenty of space for us and our friends and the views were breath-taking - so much so we felt like we were on top of a mountain overlooking the beauty of the lake. We had complete privacy throughout our stay and it was a sanctuary for us to relax and unwind in after our wedding day and over New Years."
